Black Ministers Council Will Honor Six Community Leaders At Annual Statewide Conference 

The Black Ministers’ Council of New Jersey, which represents approximately 600 churches throughout the state of New Jersey will honor six community leaders during its annual closing banquet on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 7:00pm.The event which will coincide with the celebration of Black History Month is being sponsored by Washington Mutual Bank and will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, Newark, New Jersey. The theme for the conference is Urban Revival: "Spiritually, Economically, Emotionally, Physically."  The 2007 Community Honorees are: Bishop Donald Hillard, Pastor of Cathedral International, Ray Chambers, Founder of Amelior Foundation, Rev. Dr. DeForest (Buster) Soaries, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. William Watley, Pastor of Saint James A.M.E. Church, Barbara Bell Coleman, President, BBC Consultants, and Rev. Jerry Sanders, Pastor of Fountain Baptist Church. Another major highlight of the conference will be the convening of Governor Jon Corzine and Urban Mayors earlier during the day on February 23rd. They will meet in a Town Hall Setting to discuss, address and offer solutions to the massive number of issues that are plaguing the inner cities. 

Other anticipated speakers and guest presenters over the two days will include: Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League/Former Mayor of New Orleans, Alfred Edmond, Senior Vice President of Black Enterprise, and Dr. Floyd Flake, Pastor of Allen A.M.E Church, Queens, New York. In addition, the conference will host a series of informative seminars on such topics as: Grants to Non Profit Organizations, Financial Check Up, Starting A Small Business, Residential Lending, Financial Fitness, a Senior Citizen Symposium and a Youth Forum featuring the renowned Elder Craige Lewis of Ex-Ministries, Forth Worth, Texas who will conduct his infamous workshop “The Truth Behind Hip Hop”. There will also be a vendor’s/exhibitor’s village during the two day conference.
